THE Tavistock Squash and Racketball Club held their end of season presentation evening at the Bedford Hotel recently.
The club has three teams playing in the Plymouth Company Squash League, which includes company teams and other squash clubs from the Plymouth area.
Tavistock Squash Club currently has a pool of over 25 players in their squad, who all help to meet the season’s fixtures. This season, the club consolidated on last year’s efforts, with all three teams finishing in respectable mid table places, despite some very good opposition.
At the presentation evening, the Team 1 player of the year was Will Westlake, following some great performances and a 60% win rate.
The Team 2 player of the year was Ian Smart in his first season playing team squash for the club. Ian clinched the award after winning all his matches and having a slightly better game win percentage than Richard Baxter, who also won all his matches.
Phil Punter, who was also playing in his first season, picked up the Team 3 player of the year award after winning nearly 70% of his matches.
Having also retained the West Devon Squash Trophy, everyone is looking forward to starting a new season in October.
The team is always looking for new players to get involved, particularly at the first team level, where the standard is very high.
